Micron Technology stock has been anything but quiet this summer. The MU stock price today sits at $892.15 on the Vantage MU CFD, as of 02:47 UTC (10:47 GMT+8) on 5 August 2026, down sharply from a peak in the $1,250 to $1,300 zone that Micron Technology (Nasdaq: MU) touched back in June. That’s a round trip few chip-stock watchers expected. This piece reads the 4-hour chart used for this analysis, along with the news behind the MU share price. It does not call the trade.

Micron makes the dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) and NAND flash storage products that quietly sit inside everything from your phone to the AI data centre down the road. Under the MU ticker on the Nasdaq, trading as Nasdaq MU, it has become one of 2026’s most talked-about AI plays, for better and for worse. Regular MU ticker watchers will find this swing familiar.

All prices below reference the Vantage MU CFD. This is not financial advice.

Key Points

  • The MU stock price, and the MU share price on the Vantage MU CFD alike, sat near $892.15 as of 5 August 2026, well off June’s peak near $1,250 to $1,300, with the 200-period moving average now overhead at $928.65.
  • Micron’s MU earnings, reported 24 June 2026, were a genuine blowout: record revenue of $41.46 billion and guidance of $50.0 billion, plus or minus $1.0 billion, for the fiscal fourth quarter.
  • A Chinese rival’s blockbuster Shanghai IPO, and reports it may build a second factory, have done more to move Micron stock and Micron technology stock sentiment lately than anything in Micron’s own numbers.

MU Stock Price Action This Month

If you have only glanced at the Micron stock price now and then this year, the 4-hour chart used for this analysis tells the story better than any single headline. Shares spent most of 2025 grinding sideways in a tight, almost sleepy range, then found a gear from around April 2026 onward as the AI memory trade caught fire. As one of the more closely watched AI memory names, this Micron tech stock rode that move from the low hundreds to the $1,250 to $1,300 zone by June, a run that looked implausible a year earlier.

What has happened since is the part traders are now arguing about. Price has slid from that June peak down through the 200-period moving average, which now sits at $928.65 on the 4-hour chart used for this analysis, flipping what had been support into resistance overhead.

The most recent completed session printed an open of $896.50, a high of $901.84, a low of $888.59, and a close of $892.15, down $4.35, or 0.49%, on the bar. An overnight indication put the MU price as low as $884.59, just under that session’s low, a wide range that underlines how volatile the MU price has been lately.

The RSI (14, close) on the TradingView setup used for this analysis reads 51.01, with its moving average at 42.78. A reading just above the neutral 50 level, with the signal line still trailing below it, reads more like a stock finding its footing than one still in free fall or already reversing sharply higher. Volume on the Vantage CFD feed for the latest bar came in at 750.99K.

MU Key Levels to Watch

Below are the levels currently in view on the Vantage MU CFD. Treat them as reference points for reading the chart, not as trade signals.

LevelPrice (Vantage MU CFD)What’s happening
Resistance$928.65200-period moving average (4H), has capped the stock since the pullback from June’s peak began.
Immediate support$884.59 – $888.59Overnight indication and the low of the most recent session.
Deeper support$741.1850-period moving average (4H), well below current levels; would mark a much deeper retracement if reached.
Reference zone$1,250 – $1,300Area where MU peaked in June before the current pullback started.

The $928.65 level is the line in the sand for now. A close back above it on the Vantage MU CFD would put MU stock back inside the range held through most of June and July. Slip back under the $884.59 to $888.59 band, and the next real reference sits all the way down at $741.18, an area untested since this rally first got going.

What’s Driving Micron Stock

what is driving micron stock

Here’s the part that trips people up: Micron’s own numbers have been excellent. Fiscal third-quarter results, reported 24 June 2026, showed revenue of $41.46 billion, GAAP net income of $28.24 billion, and diluted earnings per share of $24.67, each a company record.[1]

Guidance for the fiscal fourth quarter calls for revenue of $50.0 billion, plus or minus $1.0 billion, and a gross margin near 86%.[1] Chairman, President and CEO Sanjay Mehrotra called it evidence of “the strategic value of memory in the AI era.”[1] None of that reads like a Micron technology stock that should be down sharply from its highs.

So what is actually moving Micron stock? Largely, China. ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) raised roughly $8.6 billion in a Shanghai listing on 27 July 2026, and its shares then surged about 466% on debut, briefly making CXMT China’s most valuable listed company.[2] Coverage of the listing noted CXMT still trails Micron by one to two technology generations in high-bandwidth memory (HBM), the product category behind most of Micron’s AI-linked revenue, and remains constrained by US export controls on advanced manufacturing tools.[3]

That should be a footnote, not a market mover. But a follow-up report that CXMT was exploring financing for a second production plant near Beijing added fresh selling pressure across Micron, SK Hynix, and the wider memory complex in early August.[4] Micron stock valuation is arguably the real debate underneath all of this: does the market keep paying up for a company with contracted demand and record margins today, or start discounting it for a well-funded Chinese competitor’s capacity a few years out?

On estimates that vary by source and change quarter to quarter, that debate has not been settled cleanly in either direction on the chart so far. Screens for MU stocks and its DRAM peers show a sector still digesting the CXMT headlines, with Micron stock valuation compressed alongside the group even as Micron’s own guidance held firm. For the latest Micron news as it lands, the Micron News tag tracks the story in real time.

MU Stock Outlook: What to Watch Next

So, what is the MU outlook from here? The honest answer is nobody knows, and anyone offering a confident MU stock outlook this month is guessing. Worth watching: whether $928.65 holds as resistance or gets reclaimed, further CXMT headlines, and how Micron’s peers frame demand as they report through August.

The next MU earnings print is not due until after the fiscal fourth quarter closes later this month, and the guidance issued back in June, for $50.0 billion in revenue, will be the number the market grades that report against.[1] Until then, MU stock price action looks set to trade on sentiment around AI memory demand and Chinese competition as much as on Micron’s own fundamentals. That is the honest MU outlook for August: news-driven first, fundamentals-driven second.

Risk Framing (Stop Loss and Leverage) for MU Stock

Micron stock has not been boring lately: shares in this large-cap Contracts for Difference (CFDs) trade have swung sharply in both directions this year, and a divergence this wide, where fundamentals improved on paper while the share price fell sharply, tends to keep intraday and overnight ranges elevated rather than calm them down.

Traders often lean on support and resistance levels like these for Stop Loss placement, which limits losses to a planned size rather than preventing them altogether. Given how fast $928.65 and $884.59 to $888.59 have been tested this week, treating standard range assumptions with some scepticism seems reasonable for MU stock this month.

Leverage, available on CFDs such as the Vantage MU CFD, cuts both ways: it can magnify gains just as easily as losses relative to the size of the underlying move. In a headline-driven stock like this one, revisiting position sizing relative to account equity, and reviewing exposure across other memory-sector share CFDs, is a sensible part of risk management heading into Micron’s next earnings report.
