[DAILY TRADING] MU Stock Analysis 12 August 2026 – Micron Steadies Near the 200-Period MA
Micron Technology (Nasdaq: MU) traded at $868.29 on the Vantage MU CFD as of 06:53 UTC (14:53 GMT+8) on 12 August 2026, up $5.79, or 0.67%, on the session, after printing an intraday low of $861.42 and a high of $870.14. After a sharp late-July spike and subsequent pullback, the mu stock price is now consolidating between its 50- and 200-period moving averages, according to the TradingView setup used for this analysis.
Two well-known analyst desks published sharply different views on how far the current memory upcycle can run within days of each other this month, which is worth watching more closely than the quiet chart action alone suggests.
Key Points
- The mu ticker traded near $868.29 as of 06:53 UTC on 12 August 2026, sitting above its 200-period moving average of 866.31 and below its 50-period moving average of 871.14 on the chart used for this analysis.
- Citigroup analyst Atif Malik cut his price objective on Micron stock to $1,150 from $1,400 on 7 August, maintaining a Buy rating while flagging slowing memory-pricing momentum and expanding Chinese memory capacity[1].
- Mizuho analyst Vijay Rakesh maintained an Outperform rating and a $1,375 price objective on the Micron Technology stock, pointing to memory supply staying tight through 2027, a materially more bullish view on the same underlying trend Citi flagged[2].
What the chart is showing
The 15-minute chart used for this technical analysis shows MU consolidating in a broad range since the late-July spike, which unwound quickly into early August before the stock clawed its way back through the second week of the month. It is not a chart doing anything dramatic right now. It is a chart catching its breath.

As of the cut-off, the CFD sat at 868.29, above its 200-period moving average (866.31) but still below its 50-period moving average (871.14), with the session’s low of 861.42 and high of 870.14 forming a tight intraday band between the two. The chart’s overnight marker showed 880.94, a level from outside regular trading hours rather than one traded during the session itself.
The RSI (14) read 59.87 on the TradingView setup used for this analysis, sitting above its RSI moving average of 45.90. That places momentum on the firmer side of neutral without extending into overbought territory above 70, a reading last touched in the first days of August. Read generously, this is a stock that appears to have stabilised. Read cautiously, it has not yet proven it wants to go anywhere either.
Two Analyst Views, One Unsettled MU Outlook

The chart’s sideways grind lines up neatly with a split forming among analysts covering the stock. Citigroup’s Atif Malik lowered his price objective to $1,150 from $1,400 on 7 August, trimming the multiple he applies to 2027 earnings from 10x to 8x after meeting supply-chain participants at a memory industry conference[1]. The note maintained his Buy rating but pointed to DRAM and NAND prices decelerating quarter on quarter over the next four quarters, with DRAM and NAND pricing expected to peak around the second quarter of 2027, and named expanding Chinese memory production as the larger long-run risk to the micron stock price[1].
Mizuho’s Vijay Rakesh offered a materially more bullish view, maintaining his Outperform rating and $1,375 price objective, and citing memory supply staying tight through 2027 as the reason for the more constructive read[2]. Both notes are looking at the same underlying trend, tight memory supply, and reaching different conclusions about how much of the cycle is left to run. That is not really a contradiction so much as two ways of reading the same data, which is exactly why the valuation debate around Micron feels unsettled right now rather than one-sided.
A separate story adds to the uncertainty around Chinese supply: reports that Apple has been testing memory chips from China’s ChangXin Memory Technologies circulated this week, feeding the same competitive question Citi’s note raised[3]. None of this confirms a shift in sourcing, but it keeps the China risk framing in view for Micron and the broader semiconductor and storage complex, including AMD, NVIDIA, Western Digital, and SanDisk.

The table below covers reference levels drawn from the chart used for this analysis. These are levels traders are watching, not trade signals.

What to watch this week and beyond
- Next MU earnings, unconfirmed: Micron’s next report is estimated around 22 September 2026, the next expected catalyst, although the reporting date remains unconfirmed.[4]
- Analyst repricing, Ongoing: Citi and Mizuho’s diverging price objectives this month give the stock two very different multi-month reference points for traders assessing Micron’s outlook.[1][2]
- China memory headlines, Ongoing: Reports involving Chinese memory suppliers are likely to keep feeding the competitive-risk narrative across the broader Nasdaq chip sector.[1][3]
- Sector correlation, Ongoing: SanDisk and Western Digital also moved sharply lower around their own earnings in early August, reinforcing how sensitive the broader memory and storage complex has become to pricing expectations.[5]
Micron’s CFD has moved inside a wide range over the past two weeks. With price close to both moving averages, a break above or below this band would provide the next short-term technical signal. Stop Loss placement relative to the levels above, and to each trader’s own account risk, is worth reviewing given how this range has behaved recently.
Leverage is available on Micron CFDs at Vantage, and it works both ways: it can scale exposure to price moves in either direction, not only the ones a trader is positioned for. Position sizing relative to account equity is worth revisiting ahead of the next mu earnings report and any further analyst repricing. See What Is Leverage in Trading for background.
