Whether you typed GBPUSD, GBP/USD, GBP / USD, GBP to USD, GBP vs USD, GBP v USD, USD to GBP, or USD GBP, you have landed on the right chart. At 08:00 (GMT+8) on 11 August 2026, GBPUSD sits at 1.3502, based on the Vantage GBPUSD CFD 15-minute chart and the TradingView setup used for this analysis.

That is a comedown from the 1.3530 high the pair touched earlier this week, but sterling still has a little spring in its step after last week’s central bank double header. Here’s today’s GBPUSD forecast, numbers first, all prices indicative and for information only.

What the GBPUSD Chart is Actually Showing

GBPUSD_2026-08-11_15-37-02
Figure 1: GBPUSD 15-minute chart with 50 and 200-period moving averages and RSI(14) (“GBPUSD 15-min, MA50 & MA200, RSI(14)”, TradingView, https://www.tradingview.com/symbols/FX-GBPUSD/) Accessed on 11 August 2026. Data indicative, for informational purposes only.

GBPUSD opened the week near 1.3495 on Sunday evening, dipped as low as 1.3475 shortly after, then found its footing. GBP USD buyers gradually took control through Monday’s Asian and London hours, and the rally really got going after midday, carrying the pair to a swing high close to 1.3530 in the early afternoon (GMT+8). It did not last.

Sellers stepped back in, easing the pair to around 1.3505-1.3510 by the early evening (GMT+8), then down toward 1.3495 again around 21:00. From there it has spent the hours since chopping mostly between 1.3495 and 1.3520. As of the cut-off, the most recent 15-minute candle opened at 1.3501, ranged between 1.3500 and 1.3502, and closed at 1.3502, essentially flat.

The 50-period moving average sits just under the market near 1.3494, while the 200-period average caps price from above near 1.3509, on the TradingView setup used for this analysis. GBPUSD is boxed in between the two, typical after a sharp move burns out. RSI (14) tells the same story: it has eased to 38.20, below its own moving average of 47.87, after touching levels above 70 during Monday’s rally. That’s momentum cooling from overbought, not oversold, matching GBP/USD’s round trip from support toward resistance and back.

The Fed, the BoE, and The Jobs Report Behind the Move

The Fed, the BoE, and The Jobs Report Behind the Move

GBP to USD positioning right now still reflects three events from the past two weeks. First, the Federal Reserve held the federal funds rate at 3.50%–3.75% on 29 July 2026, in a 9-3 vote under Chair Kevin Warsh. 1 Three regional presidents dissented in favour of a hike, unhappy that inflation has stayed above the Fed’s 2% goal while energy prices stay jumpy because of the Middle East conflict. [1]

Second, the Bank of England held Bank Rate at 3.75% the following day, in a tighter 6-3 vote. 2 Three MPC members pushed for a hike this time, up from two in June, even as Governor Andrew Bailey pointed to UK interest rate policy easing, with inflation down to 2.6% in June 2026, its lowest reading in fifteen months.2 Markets are pricing both central banks on hold into their next scheduled decisions.

Third, and the one that actually moved GBP USD more recently, was last Friday’s data. US non-farm payrolls fell by 23,000 in July, against a forecast for an 80,000 gain, and combined revisions wiped a further 103,000 jobs off the May and June prints. 3 The unemployment rate ticked down to 4.1%, but the miss on the headline print weighed broadly on the US Dollar and helped carry GBPUSD to its firmest levels since mid-July. 4 So while the GBP vs USD story often gets told as a Bank of England headline, the more recent driver actually sat on the other side of the Atlantic.

More sits on the calendar. US CPI data for July lands on 12 August 2026 at 08:30 (ET), the next big input for Fed thinking ahead of September. 5 UK CPI data for July follows on 19 August 2026. 6 The Fed’s next scheduled decision falls on 16 September 2026, and the Bank of England is back on 17 September 2026. 2,7 None of that is a directional cue, just the calendar this GBP to USD forecast tracks. If you are watching this pair intraday, the round trip between 1.3475 and 1.3530 over the past two sessions says one thing clearly: ranges can widen fast around central bank and data risk. Stop Loss placement relative to the 1.3494 and 1.3509 zones above matters more than usual this week, and proportional account risk, not a fixed pip count, is worth a second look before Wednesday’s US CPI print.

Leverage cuts both ways in a range like this: it can widen a gain just as easily as it can deepen a loss, so position sizing relative to account equity deserves a check before the CPI and Bank of England dates above. Anyone holding correlated exposure across other GBP or USD pairs should look at the combined position, since a single dollar move can hit several pairs at once.
