Vantage is a global, multi-asset broker with a team of in-house writers and market analysts who produce educational and insightful trading content for traders of all levels.

Some currency pairs like to make a scene. AUD/USD, this week, has mostly just held its ground. The Vantage AUDUSD CFD is changing hands near 0.6958 as of 10:52 (GMT+8) on 30 July 2026, sitting between its two major moving averages following a sharp rebound from around 0.6920 on 29 July. If you’re scrolling for AUD USD news today expecting fireworks, this session is quieter than the last few.

There is plenty happening behind that calm, though. A hawkish Federal Reserve hold, a mixed round of Australian inflation data, and a Reserve Bank of Australia meeting less than two weeks out are all tugging at the Aussie from different directions. For now, that tug of war is keeping AUD/USD boxed inside its recent range. That’s the short version of today’s AUDUSD forecast: a market catching its breath, not making up its mind on the broader AUD to USD picture.

All prices are as of 10:52 (GMT+8) on 30 July 2026. Charts are indicative and from TradingView. This is not financial advice.

Key Points

  • The Vantage AUDUSD CFD trades near 0.6958 as of 10:52 (GMT+8) on 30 July 2026, wedged between the 50-period moving average at 0.69611 and the 200-period moving average at 0.69500.
  • The Federal Reserve held its benchmark rate at 3.50%-3.75% on 29 July in a 9-3 vote, with three policymakers favouring a hike, but AUD/USD subsequently rebounded sharply as the US Dollar weakened after the decision.
  • Australia’s June CPI eased to 3.8% year-on-year, while trimmed mean inflation remained at 3.6%, presenting the RBA with a mixed inflation picture ahead of its 11 August meeting.

What the AUDUSD Chart Is Showing

AUDUSD fell from a high near 0.7020 on 23 July 2026 to around 0.6920 by 29 July 2026, establishing a broader sequence of lower highs and lower lows despite several interim rebounds along the way. Then, in the 29 July 2026 evening session, one strong candle reversed a good chunk of that move, pushing the pair back above 0.6980 before sellers reasserted themselves and the range narrowed into today.

As of the cut-off, the Vantage AUDUSD CFD last printed an open of 0.69578, a high of 0.69593, and a low of 0.69567, with the pair last changing hands at 0.69579. Volume on the chart, attributed to the Vantage CFD feed, stood at 805, about as quiet as the AUDUSD trend has looked all week.

The 50-period moving average sits at 0.69611 and the 200-period at 0.69500, so price is currently sandwiched between the two, a spot that tends to reward patience over conviction. The RSI, attributed to the TradingView setup used for this analysis, reads 51.82 against a 54.09 RSI moving average. Nothing overbought, nothing oversold, just a market waiting for its next cue.

Why AUD/USD Is Moving Today

Wednesday’s Federal Reserve decision is still doing much of the talking, though the price action tells a more nuanced story than the vote alone would suggest. The Fed held its benchmark rate at 3.50% to 3.75% on 29 July 2026, but the 9-3 vote carried a hawkish edge, with three policymakers pushing for an immediate 25-basis-point increase.[1,2] Fed Chair Kevin Warsh reinforced that tone in his press conference, signalling little tolerance for a softer inflation goal.[2] AUD/USD initially trimmed its post-decision losses to trade near 0.6950, then extended those gains through the evening session as broader Dollar weakness took hold, pushing the pair above 0.6980 before easing back into today’s Asian session.[1]

On the domestic side, Australia’s Consumer Price Index eased to 3.8% year-on-year in June, down from 4.0% in May, while trimmed mean inflation remained at 3.6%, presenting the RBA with a mixed inflation picture ahead of its 11 August 2026 meeting.[3] Monthly CPI fell 0.1%, but unchanged trimmed mean inflation at 3.6% suggests underlying inflation pressures did not ease materially ahead of the RBA’s next meeting. [3] Preliminary July PMI data also firmed, with manufacturing at 51.7 and services at 53.0, both signalling continued expansion.[4]

Layer on a Middle East conflict that keeps stirring safe-haven demand for the US Dollar, and it’s little wonder AUD/USD has struggled to break decisively either way. As a China-linked, growth-sensitive currency, the Aussie also moves with sentiment around Chinese demand and commodity prices, one more reason the aud usd currency news cycle rewards patience over quick reactions.

Later in the US session today, the Personal Consumption Expenditures price index for June lands, widely regarded as the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge.[5] A stronger-than-expected inflation reading could reinforce expectations that policy will remain restrictive, while a softer reading could temper some of the hawkish interpretation surrounding this week’s dissenting votes. Either way, expect the reaction to show up on the Dollar side of the ledger first, rather than in fresh Australian headlines.

What to Watch This Week

  • US PCE Inflation / Personal Income and Outlays for June, 30 July: The Fed’s preferred inflation gauge lands later today and could reset near-term Dollar positioning ahead of the next data cycle.
  • RBA Policy Meeting, 11 August 2026: The Reserve Bank of Australia’s next rate decision follows the mixed June CPI print, with the outcome a key input for AUD pairs into September.
  • FOMC Minutes, 19 August 2026: The full record of the 9-3 vote will provide more detail on the policy debate between the dissenting policymakers and the majority.

AUD/USD has moved on both the Fed decision and the domestic inflation print this week, and it is sitting close to both key moving averages, where things can turn quickly. The 0.6920 support and 0.6989 resistance areas may warrant closer attention during periods of elevated volatility, particularly for traders with additional China-linked or Dollar-correlated exposure.

Leverage cuts both ways in a range like this one, and position sizing relative to account equity is worth a second look ahead of the US PCE release and the RBA’s 11 August decision, either of which could nudge AUD/USD outside its recent band.
