ASX 200 Continues to Search for the Bottom
- Volatility continues to be an issue in Australia shares, as well as other major share markets around the world.
- The ASX 200 is approaching a major support level and continues to seek out a market boom.
- A rebound in New York on Wednesday could provide upward momentum for the ASX 200 on Thursday.
The trading session on Wednesday saw the ASX 200 fluctuate as it attempts to establish a bottom. The 8,200 level remains a significant support area, given its recent role in stabilising the market. Additionally, the 200-Day EMA beneath is expected to provide further support, reinforcing the notion that the ASX 200 is in the process of bottoming out. However, such transitions are typically volatile and the market may experience considerable choppiness in the coming sessions.

Woolworths Group Ltd (WOW)
Woolworths experienced significant volatility Wednesday, following its earnings report. The company reported a surprising earnings miss of AU$0.03 per share and a revenue shortfall of AU$30.02 million. As a result, the stock declined by 3.04%. This downturn also pushed the price below the 50-Day EMA, signalling potential further weakness in the near term.

RIO Tinto Ltd (RIO)
RIO Tinto faced significant selling pressure Wednesday, plunging below AU$115. The AU$114 level has historically provided strong support, but recent earnings results fell short of expectations, contributing to the negative sentiment. The stock closed down 3.39% for the session and is now nearing a level that could attract interest from value investors. Despite the decline, the stock remains within a broader trading range, suggesting that buyers may step in around this level.

QBE Insurance Group Ltd (QBE)
QBE continued its upward momentum during Wednesday’s trading session, as traders sought stability amid market uncertainty. The company’s recent earnings call exceeded expectations, with earnings coming in 8.89% higher than projected and revenue reaching AU$565.73 million. The stock has been in a sustained uptrend and is now approaching the AU$22 level, a significant psychological barrier and an all-time high. While recent breakout attempts have faced resistance, QBE has demonstrated remarkable resilience. Additionally, a dividend of AU$0.63 is set to be distributed on 5 March for those holding positions. Given its strong performance in recent months, QBE shows no signs of shifting from its bullish trajectory.
