Weekly Market Outlook: October 20th – 24th, 2025
Market Background
Weekly Market Outlook on the Global markets are entering the week of October 20–24, 2025, at a critical turning point, with traders caught between optimism for monetary easing and concern over renewed geopolitical and trade risks. On one side, investors are hoping that weaker global growth data—particularly from the U.S. and China—will encourage central banks to accelerate rate-cut discussions before year-end. On the other side, the market faces persistent U.S.–China trade tension, with talk of new tariff measures and export restrictions continuing to create uncertainty for both the technology and manufacturing sectors.
This week’s economic calendar is loaded with high-impact releases. From China, investors will closely watch third-quarter GDP, industrial production, and retail sales data to gauge the true extent of the country’s post-pandemic recovery slowdown. A weak set of numbers could trigger expectations for additional Chinese fiscal or monetary support, which might provide temporary relief for commodities and risk assets.
In the U.S., CPI inflation figures will be the highlight, coming at a time when the Federal Reserve’s tone remains cautious but data-dependent. A lower inflation reading would strengthen the case for rate cuts, likely boosting equities and gold while softening the dollar. Conversely, a stronger-than-expected CPI could reignite fears of prolonged restrictive policy, pressuring equities and risk assets.
The ongoing U.S. government funding deadlock complicates the outlook further. It has stalled parts of public spending and raised short-term uncertainty over fiscal operations. Although markets have grown accustomed to such standoffs, extended political gridlock could weigh on confidence and dampen investor appetite for risk later in the week.
Given this mixed backdrop, traders are likely to see alternating waves of “risk-on” and “risk-off” behaviour. If data points toward slower growth and increased chances of stimulus, risk assets such as equities, Bitcoin, and oil may find short-term relief. However, if economic numbers surprise on the upside or trade tensions intensify, markets could swing sharply back to defensive mode, favouring gold, the U.S. dollar, and government bonds.
Overall, the week begins with a cautious and defensive tone, but high volatility remains likely as global investors respond to each new data release and geopolitical headline.
EURUSD
Fundamental view: The euro remains vulnerable. European data is showing softness as the region is more exposed to U.S.–China trade friction via global value chains. Meanwhile, a softened U.S. dollar is expected to ease euro pressure.
Technical outlook:

- Support: ~ 1.16200 (50% Fib Retracement)
- Next resistance: ~ 1.17600 (61.8% Fib Retracement on the D1 Timeframe)
Technical Observations: If the dollar strengthens or China data disappoints, EURUSD is likely to push back towards the 1.15000. However, a softness in the dollar should see EURUSD price head higher to the 1.17600 level.
USDJPY
Fundamental view: With global risk uncertainty elevated, the dollar retains safe-haven appeal vs the yen even though the yen itself is typically a risk-off alternative. Japan policy announcements and commentary will also matter.
Technical outlook:

- Resistance: ~ 155.000 Level (major ceiling)
- Support: ~ 150.000
Outlook: A failure to break below 150.00 keeps the bias toward the upside intact. Sentiment should shift bearish once price breaks and holds below the 149.000 level.
GOLD (XAUUSD)
Fundamental view: Gold enters the week as a clear safe-haven candidate. Elevated trade & growth risk, combined with inflation concerns, keep the underlying bid strong.
Technical outlook:

- Resistance: ~ $4,380 (measured extension from recent swing)
Next Support: ~ $4,160 (recent breakout retest)
Technical Observations: If risk remains elevated or inflation prints strong, gold may test above $4,150. However, a sharp correction in risk could pull it back toward the $4,000 zone.
BTCUSD (Bitcoin)
Fundamental view: Bitcoin remains highly sensitive to risk sentiment shifts. With macro and trade noise high this week, expect heightened volatility.
Technical outlook:

- Resistance: ~ $125,000 (recent swing high)
- Next support: ~ $100,000 (50.0% retracement)
Technical Observations: If risk sentiment improves (e.g., positive Chinese data or trade de-escalation), Bitcoin could rally toward $124K. Conversely, if trade or CPI surprises go negative, the path toward $100,000 could reopen.
S&P 500 (SPX500)
Fundamental view: The S&P enters the week sensitive to tariff headlines and inflation data. A strong CPI print could spook markets; conversely, a softer print or positive earnings could reignite gains. Analysts warn of meaningful downside risk if trade tensions worsen.
Technical outlook:

- Resistance: ~ 6,750 (recent high)
- Next resistance: ~ 6,700
- Next support: ~ 6,540 (50% retracement)
Technical Observations: If CPI is benign and earnings strong, this index may test 6,750. But trade-shock or inflation surprise can flip momentum toward 6,500.
NASDAQ 100 (NAS100)
Fundamental view: Tech remains vulnerable to export controls (especially U.S.–China) and inflation pressures. Earnings will also matter mid-week.
Technical outlook:

- Next Resistance: ~ 25,400
- Support: ~ 24,450 (50% retracement)
WTI Crude Oil (USOIL)
Fundamental view: Oil remains under pressure due to a mix of renewed U.S.–China trade tensions, slowing global growth, and persistent inflation uncertainty. Investor sentiment remains fragile as tariff threats, weak Chinese data, and cautious central-bank messaging heighten fears of a prolonged economic slowdown.
Technical outlook:

- Resistance: ~ $57.550
- Support: ~ $55.000 (recent low)
Technical Observations: If Chinese industrial output surprises positively, oil could recover toward ~$60.50. If demand fears deepen, the move toward ~$55.00 looms.
U.S. Dollar Index (DXY)
Fundamental view: The dollar is likely to benefit if trade tensions persist or inflation surprises on the upside; however, a dovish Fed tilt or soft CPI may limit strength or trigger a pullback.
Technical outlook:

- Resistance: ~ 98.500
- Support: ~ 97.800
Next support: ~ 97.100
Technical Observations: A risk-off environment or negative data surprise boosts DXY. A positive growth/inflation surprise could reverse that to favor risk assets and a weaker dollar.
NVIDIA (NVDA)
Fundamental view: NVDA sits at the intersection of AI-hype and trade risk (especially export control). Nvidia stock could respond to the dynamics surrounding trade-related events this week.
Technical outlook:

- Resistance: ~ $195
- Support: ~ $178 (50% retracement)
Summary
This week’s market tone remains cautious as traders balance rate-cut hopes against trade and inflation risks.
A soft U.S. CPI or weak Chinese data could boost equities, gold, and risk assets, while a strong CPI or renewed tariff headlines may fuel dollar strength and safe-haven demand.
The S&P 500 and Nasdaq are likely to stay choppy, gold and the dollar should remain firm, and oil may struggle amid softer demand expectations.
EURUSD stays pressured by weak Eurozone data, USDJPY holds near highs on yield gaps, and Bitcoin mirrors overall risk sentiment. Nvidia remains pivotal for tech momentum as investors gauge AI optimism versus export-control risks.
Expect volatile two-way trading driven by data surprises and geopolitical news, with traders favoring quick, tactical moves around key Fibonacci support and resistance zones.
