A stock represents ownership in a single company, while an index tracks the combined performance of many stocks at once. You can buy and sell individual shares directly, but an index itself is not a tradeable asset — you gain exposure to it through products like CFDs, ETFs, or futures. Trading an index CFD provides exposure to the price movements of multiple constituent companies through a single instrument.
