For a physically owned ETF, the main costs are the expense ratio (an automatic annual deduction from the fund’s assets), the bid-ask spread, any broker commission, any platform or custody fee, and currency conversion charges where applicable. For an ETF CFD, such as those offered by Vantage, you do not pay the fund’s expense ratio; the relevant costs are typically the spread, any commission, overnight financing and any currency conversion charges. None of these are hidden — they are set out in the fund’s documentation or the broker’s published fee schedule and contract specifications.
